Behaviour Support & Coaching

What is difficult child behaviour?

Difficult behaviour can vary in how it presents and it’s intensity. Hitting, screaming, kicking, running away, flopping to the ground, tantruming are a few examples. You may have seen one or all of these, each child is different.

It is quite normal for young children to have tantrums from time to time or for older children to feel emotional and lash out. What we need to be wary of, however, is when this behaviour becomes persistent or difficult to manage and is negatively impacting your child's quality of life.

How can you help your child?

Seeking support with managing difficult child behaviour is the very best thing you can do to help your child. Of course, you know your child best, but sometimes an outside perspective will help to see things that you may be too close to see.

How can we help you?

When we work with you, our primary focus is to provide you and your child with the tools and strategies you need to manage difficult child behaviour while building a happier and more enjoyable home life.

Our approach comes from years of experience in managing difficult behaviour. It is research driven and is effective.

Our starting point is always to learn about your child and understand why the behaviour is happening. To do this we follow a three-step process.

Our 3 Step Process

Step by Step

Follow up sessions

Follow up sessions will be arranged to adjust the plan, as necessary and to ensure consistent progress.

These sessions may take the form of 1:1 sessions with your child or parent coaching sessions and will depend on the needs of your child and family at that time. As the difficult child behaviour reduces and new skills are learned, these sessions will be reduced.

School Involvement

Oftentimes, if there are behavioural problems at home, this may also be happening in school. This is an important piece of the puzzle as in order to effect any real change, your child’s needs must be taken care of and managed across all environments.

Our approach to school support is very similar to home support. We can arrange to meet with your child’s teacher, as they too will have important and invaluable information as to what happens across a given day. We will also arrange a school visit and from this make appropriate recommendations for your child and their teacher to ensure that everyone is on the same page and working towards the same goal. As above, check in’s and follow up visits can be arranged as needed.
