Empowering children and their parents to overcome challenges is our absolute passion.
We are both graduates of National University of Ireland, Galway and accredited Board Certified Behaviour Analysts (BCBA), which means that everything we do and our approach will always be evidence driven. This is key to our success, as it means our strategies and recommendations are effective and specific to your child's individual needs.
We have worked closely with many families and children over the last number of years, working with and supporting children and their families is what we love doing. Whether it is equipping a toddler with the tools to learn from their environment, overcoming a fear of sitting on the toilet or managing behaviour that challenges, you can be assured that we will be with you each step of the way.
Having worked in both homes and schools, we understand how scary and daunting it can be to ask for support, but know that you are not alone. We have met so many children and families who just need an outside perspective to create a calmer and happier home for everyone.
I came in contact with SBS when my son's behaviour was extremely difficult and we were definitely struggling to cope. We really did not how to help him and his school were also struggling. I met with Laura and from our first meeting, everything transformed!! She had such a warm, friendly personality and I felt so empowered afterwards and for the first time, positive things were going to get better. She developed a plan for my son which was so specific to him. I also got a lot of help and support from Laura which I appreciated so much in such a difficult time. I never felt alone. Little by little, things got a lot better and we have all the supports in place that help my son which I was just so clueless about before. I could not recommend enough.
We are very thankful to have met Lisa and worked with her. In the short time that John has been in therapy , we have achieved some significant milestones including adjusting to a new environment, new people and pointing, reduced anxiety amongst so many other things.
First off, Laura has a great warm personality, kind in her approach and simply as good as it gets in terms of assistance. Laura’s work was of great help in assisting with our daughters basic learning, listening and understanding and general progression - even her toilet training. Laura is simply a great asset to such kids and families and if you have the chance to have her help a child who is struggling, I recommend you reach out to her.
I got in touch with Step by Step when I was having issues with toilet training my daughter. I had toilet trained her 2 older sisters with absolutely no issues but I just felt like no matter what I did, I was having no success. She was having loads of accidents every day, would not sit on the toilet to do her bowel movements and would never tell me when she had to go. It took me a while to reach out and get support and after a few days, we were having success. I was over the moon! I met with Laura, we talked through everything and I genuinely felt so supported the whole way through. She is not toilet trained thankfully but I wish I reached out for support sooner because once we got the right support, it was so easy and quick.
I got in touch with SBS when my son who was 9 at the the time was presenting with some difficult behaviours both at home and school. School were really struggling and so was i!! None of us knew how to help him. On our first visit, I was instantly at ease and felt confident that things were going to improve. Also, for the first time i felt like I understood my sons' behaviours and had a better understanding of why it were happening. We made lots of changes and my sons behaviour was improving all the time. It was the first time I felt someone understood my child's behaviour and I felt constantly supported through the entire process
